Priesthood
“Priesthood shall be composed of people of humility and integrity who are willing to extend themselves in service for others and for the well-being of the faith community.” Doctrine and Covenants 163: 6a
Ministers in Community of Christ respond to God’s call to serve in congregations as Deacons, Teachers, Priests, Elders, and Missionary Elders. Others are called to serve as World Church Ministers in the capacity of High Priest, Seventy, Evangelist, Bishop, or Apostle. Ministers in local congregations are largely bi-vocational and serve full time as self-supporting ministers while also earning a living through paid, secular employment.
While some persons are called to serve in the priesthood, all persons are called to serve in the highest calling of all—that of member or disciple of Jesus Christ.
